Daniel Bausch Dominates Distance Events - Alaska State Meet Recap 2019

Daniel Bausch Runs 4:13/9:21 Double At State

Senior Daniel Bausch, who qualified for Foot Locker last December, made another strong effort in the distance events, winning the 1,600 meters (4:13.60) and 3,200 (9:21.78) at Machetanz Field in Palmer. 

Junior teammate Hyrum Nelson finished second behind Bausch in both events. They also placed third (Nelson) and fourth (Bausch) in the 800 and helped push Chugiak to the Division I boys title with 123 points.

West Valley, which finished second place, was paced by Division I Boys Athlete of the Meet, Terrell Johnson, who won the 300 hurdles (40.28), high jump (6-3), long jump (21-3.50) and was part of the winning 4x200 (1:30.79).

South Anchorage won the Division I girls team title with 88 points.

West Valley junior Kendall Kramer won the 1,600 (4:56.15) and 3,200 (10:27.18).

Reilly Hall, Shaylee Griffin, Ellie Scherffius and Brooklynn Gould  won gold for Chugiak in the 4x100 (49.12) and 4x200 (1:43.12), setting two state meet ecords.

It was another all-around dominant performance from Anchorage Christian as the boys team won nine events Saturday en route to the program's seventh straight Division II team championship.

Anchorage Christian was led by senior Fredrick Onochie, who swept the sprints, winning the 100 (11.51), 200 (22.93) and 400 (51.06), and was part of the winning 4x200 relay (1:34.24).

Sophomore teammate Tristian Merchant won the 1,600 (4:25.98), 3,200 (9:31.7) and was the anchor on the winning 4x400 (3:38.14).

In Division II girls, Kenai Central won the title with 110 points, winning six events.

Junior Hailey Williams of Delta Junction won the 100 (12.45), 200 (25.06) and 400 (58.10) and was named the Division II girls Athlete of the Meet.
