Nicholson, Dunleavey leave lasting marks in jumps

The biggest news of the spring in Alaska came in the jumps. 

Brandon Nicholson broke a 24-year-old state best earlier this spring and pushed it out to 47-2.50 at his regional last week. He broke the state meet record on Satureday with 46-7.50.

Ceil Dunleavy of Wasilla broke a 25-year-old mark when she jumped 5-8 at the Palmer Invitational to win the high jump. Dunleavy won the 4A high jump for a fourth straight year with 5-6.

Ariana Davis led the Chugiak girls to the Class 4A team title with wins in the 100 (12.54) and 200 (26.32). She also anchored winning 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Sophomore Camron Herron of West Valley ran 1:56.92 to win the 4A boys 800 meters. Herron also anchored the winning 4x400 relay for the victorious Wolf Pack.

Ruby Woodings of Palmer was a 4A double winner in the 400 and 800.

Josh Jackman of Kenai Central won the 4A boys 200 (22.27) and was second in the 100 (11.35).

Junior Jacob Moos of Galena won the 3A/2A/1A 3,200 meters in 9:19.66 and the 1,600 in 4:23.32. Keith Osowski won the distance finals at the 4A level. Briahna Gerlach of Glenallen swept the small-school 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters. Izabelle Ith of Petersburg won the two hurdles finals.
