Welling lowers her own record in 300 hurdles;

Two races ruled tie on warm day in Anchorage

 

State Meet Highlights - RESULTS

- Thunder Mountain senior, Naomi Welling broke her own state record in the 300 hurdles, winning the 4A event in 43.49. She has won the event 4 straight years.Jordyn Bruce of Eagle River, the runner-up, also went under Welling's previous state record time with 43.80. Welling also won the triple jump with 38-5.75 and the 800 in 2:21.51 just moments after her hurdles win.

 - Junior Brandon Nicholson of Colony broke the 4A state meet record in the triple jump with a mark of 46-2. He was just short of his own state record, set at the regional meet, of 46-4.25.

 Ceil Dunleavy of Wasilla, a junior, finished a half inch off the state high jump record, clearing a height of 5-6.5 in her 4A win.

 - Senior Tanner Ealum from Anchorage Christian swept the 3A/2A/1A 100 (12.22), 200 (24.76) and 400 (55.56) for the third straight year. She now has 10 individual state titles.

 - Also from Anchorage Christian, senior Elizabeth Balsan, ran the fastest 800 and 3,200 of all divisions, with times of 2:19.68 and 11:11.69. She also finished second in the 1,600 in 5:01.49.

 Briahna Gerlich of Glannallen, who swept all three distance races one year ago, was only able to defend her 1,600 title in 5:00.65. She finished second in the 3,200 and third in the 800.

- Brett Morman of South Anchorage won the 4A boys 100 meters in 10.95 but finished in ta dead heat with Dillon Pratt of Chugiak as they both ran 22.00 seconds in the 200. The race was ruled a tie.

- Amazingly, there was another tie in the 3A boys 1,600 meters. Teammates Caleb Korta and Jacob Moos of Galena both ran 4:26.57 and were declared co-winners.

- Ty Jordan of Chugiak won the 4A boys 1,600 in 4:15.78.

- Chugiak's girls won the 4A team title for the first time since 1994 .Boys official team scores were not reported.
